Xiaomi released its this year’s flagship device – Xiaomi Mi5 in Mobile World Congress and it definitely lived up to the expectation. Not only that it packs specs to give competition to the likes of the LG G5 and the Samsung Galaxy S7. As for the availability, you can purchase it in China starting March 1 but what about the rest of the world? Well, Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra revealed on the day of the event that the phone will land in the neighboring country and their second biggest market, India soon enough and then in other global markets further along the line.
Well lets talk specs, the device features a FullHD 5.15-inch IPS display with ultra-bright 16-LED backlighting, we are guessing that not giving the device a QHD display is Xiaomi’s way to increase the battery life of the device. But with nearly no side bezels and 428 ppi pixel density, it provides a screen that is pleasing to the eyes.
Amazingly so, even after the device packs a 3000 mAh battery, it weights 129g along with its 3D glass back and comes with a 7.25mm thickness. The glassy back may be slippery while handling the device, but only the regular version will have a glass back as there will also be a higher-end ceramic back variant which will be called Xiaomi Mi5 Pro.
Camera is also an area which sees some upgrades like the 16MP back camera with an aperture of f/2.0 and 4-axis optical image stabilization. This Sony IMX 298 comes with phase detection auto focus and deep trench isolation technology which can record 4K video but that is more of a Snapdragon 820 chip’s features then the camera itself. At the front, you will find a 4MP UltraPixel camera which was also present in the Mi Note.
