According to the latest reports Google has been working on a new technology for the battery. The Research team compromising of four people is the same one which previously worked on Project Loon and self driving car.
Wall Street Journal says
“In late 2012, a team led by former Apple Inc. battery expert Dr. Ramesh Bhardwaj began testing batteries developed by others for use in Google devices. About a year later, the group expanded to look at battery technologies that Google might develop itself, according to people familiar with the matter.”
The obvious goals of the project may seem to increase the battery life of smartphones but they report claims they are trying to improve the battery life across a wide range on devices.
“At Google, Dr. Bhardwaj’s group is trying to advance current lithium-ion technology and the cutting-edge solid-state batteries for consumer devices, such as Glass and Google’s glucose-measuring contact lens, according to the people familiar with the matter.”
Given the current scenario of the trends in technology, the gadgets we use are getting smaller and smaller day by day. This leads to the challenge of keeping them powered up through the day or longer. With new breakthroughs in battery technology Google might actually save us from running to the charging station every few hours.
