Microsoft launched itself in the smart phone market with Lumia 535 carrying the flag into the battle,an affordable handset with good features supporting windows 8.1 with the Denim update. And it is set to compete against the likes of Moto e, Asus Zenfone series and the new Chinese powerhouses xiomi red mi 1s and red mi note. Though the phone is packed with features , users have constantly pointed out there being touch screen issues, feeling underwhelmed by the dedicated graphic performance. If you plan to buy this phone, and are hesitating , this unbiased review will help you make a decision.

Lumia 535 has the classic Lumia design as seen in most of the entry level smart phones from Lumia. Its simple , sleek and does the job well. It does not have anything special in the design but for an entry level phone it is hardly something to complain about. The phone does miss a dedicated camera key and there are no physical buttons as the home, search and back buttons now popping up on the screen. There is a 5 megapixel camera at the back with the LED flash, also near the bottom the speakers are present. There is a 3.5 mm jack, and the wide angle 5 megapixel front camera on the top right side of the phone. The back cover comes in various colors so you can change it if you want to do so .
As it is Windows OS does not demand a lot of hardware , and run fluently even in 512 MB of RAM , Lumia 535 has 1 GB of RAM which makes multitasking a great experience on the whole. It also comes with a quadcore snapdragon 200 chipset which is clocked at 1.2 GHz , which though being at the lower end of the snapdragon series manages to does deliver a good performance on the phone consistently. Lag is definitely not a problem in windows OS as such and with the given chip set along with 1GB of ram, you get a very fluid experience on your device. The dedicated graphics chip Adreno 302 does feel underwhelming. The screed with a large display does lack pixel density, and the colors are not very vibrant, the color pallet present in the higher models is not present in this phone.
The main camera could have been better it is not a bad camera in any way. Its infact a very good 5MP camera, and LED flash helps in clicking pictures specially at night time. The video recording is 480p unlike the 720p in Lumia 520 , it’s a good 480p video although it could have been better. The front camera is impressive, it’s a wide angle 5MP camera specially for selfie lovers and people who skype a lot.
EXPERIENCE AS A USER:
My initial plans were to buy a Lumia 630, until one of my friends convinced me to get a 535, I too was reluctant at first because I had heard about the touchscreen issues in the videos and heard how the phone was almost impossible to use and how the phone did not perform well due to the low end processor . But I am glad to say that I went for this phone. Windows OS is not very popular as such but I find it very convenient to work with, though it lacks the apps .Though there is a drawback about the phone I would like to talk about and also the part which most users want to know that is:-
Well , the touch screen issue does exist, and despite the update by Microsoft it has yet to be completely resolved.BUT, the issue is not what many people have made it out to be, the phone is very much usable and functions smoothly, specially with the touchscreen fix by Microsoft and by switching of screen magnifier in the ease of access settings present in the menu. There is no lag in response of the touch, it is a capacitive touch , it works even with gloves on, the typing is fluent, and the swipe makes it even better, but the problem lies in the multipoint touch which too is visible only in few games where you need press the screen on different points continuously. Also another problem that I have faced in touch aspect is when there are a lot of water droplets on the screen , the screen needs to be pressed harder . The thing is Microsoft has also acknowledged the prevailing problems and have already started working on a new fix to resolve it so hopefully this problem too would be gone and that too very soon. Other than that the dedicated graphics chip does not do justice to our expectations, but as far as performance of the snapdragon chipset goes, It performs really well and even exceeds expectations as in a test of performance between Lumia 630 and 535, where 630 packs a quadcore snapdragon 400 processor, 535 beat it in overall performance, as it opened apps quicker and processed commands faster. Also with the 1GB RAM it is future proof and ready for Windows 10. Cortana is also a very effective tool to have, and it is still improving and the Microsoft office suite is very reliable and efficient. The music apps are good, but the video application disappoints as it is unable to run HD , this is a small problem which can be solved by third party apps such as moli player and mx player, also the here maps are amazing and useful specially since they are offline, and save your data.
THE FINAL VERDICT :
My final verdict will definitely be that, if you are hesitating about buying this phone, then don’t, If you like windows phones, you will not be disappointing in any way, there are its fair share of problems but it also has a lot of positives. If you have never tried windows phone and want to give it a try , this phone can act as a good introduction to the new OS for you. Affordable and packed with features, The phone is definitely a worthy purchase.
